Allow me to address the exciting new animated movies set to release down below:

The Super Mario Bros. Movie — April 7, 2023

Fans of the legendary plumbing team can finally anticipate the release of one of the most anticipated movies of 2023 on April 7 after numerous delays. The well-received preview trailers have undoubtedly excited many people despite some reservations about the casting choices, the memory of the universally reviled original 1993 Mario movie still seared into those unfortunate enough to see it. The Super Mario Bros. Movie, which stars Jack Black, Seth Rogen, Anya Taylor-Joy, and Keegan-Michael Key, as well as Chris Pratt and Charlie Day as Mario and Luigi, respectively, are either going to be a smashing success or another blot on one of Nintendo’s most beloved video game franchises.

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, Part 1 — June 2, 2023

Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, which debuted in 2018, was a stunningly animated surprise success that garnered widespread praise and even became the first non-Disney film to win the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature since Rango (2011). Miles Morales, the intelligent and rebellious African-American and Puerto Rican teenager, is the most relatable Spider-Man to date. After several delays, fans can now rejoice at the news that the next installment, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse (Part One), has now been confirmed for release on June 2, 2023, and will be followed by a second part slated for a March 29, 2024 release. With the Spider-Verse opened to the possibility of having unlimited Spider-Men, Spider-Women, or Spider- Pig in alternate dimensions, the sky’s the limit on what to expect. That said, we know that Across the Spider-Verse will focus on Morales’ relationship with Gwen Stacy / Spider-Woman and Spider-Man 2099.

Elemental — June 16, 2023

A fiery young woman and a laid-back guy are about to discover something elemental: how much they have in common, according to the official plot summary for Elemental by Disney Pixar. According to reports, the plot is loosely based on director Peter Sohn’s personal experiences of growing up as the son of immigrants in the diverse city of New York. One can anticipate being taken on a rollercoaster of emotions involving a ton of heart, laughter, and, most likely, tears, given Pixar’s impeccable record and fantastic ability to evoke the strongest emotions from even the most apathetic of viewers. On June 16, Elemental is slated to be released in theaters.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem — August 4, 2023

Leonardo, Donatello, Michelangelo, and Raphael, the “heroes in a half shell,” rose to the heights of pop culture during the 1980s. What was initially a well-known comic strip quickly evolved into a hugely popular animated television program. Since then, the world has enjoyed various products, including countless action figures, lunch boxes, video games, and movie adaptations. There have been many of these over the years, and depending on the period in which you were raised, a different film will speak to you more than others. Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg, the film’s producers, are self-described TMNT fans and have promised to treat the latest Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles installment, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem, with respect. As such, fans can feel secure that the film is in good hands.

Trolls 3: Trolls Band Together — November 17, 2023

These wacky-haired trolls, once one of the most popular toy trends from the late 1950s to the 1990s, have grown into the stars of one of the biggest animated franchises in the world. Following the success of the 2016 original animated film and its 2020 sequel Trolls World Tour, they’ll be returning to the big screen this year in Trolls Band Together, which is sure to be a riot of color and music. Although not much is known about the project, it is likely to follow the same formula that has worked for others and be a jukebox musical with various classic hits and perhaps a few new songs as the gang “bands” together to overcome obstacles.

Wish — November 22, 2023

The movie “Wish,” which was released in conjunction with Disney’s 100th anniversary, asks, “How did the wishing star, upon which so many Disney characters wished, come to be?” and follows young Ashna (voiced by the beautiful Ariana DeBose) as she battles against the most potent adversaries to save her community in the kingdom of Rosas with a bit of assistance from some dependable magic. The film is reportedly packed with Easter eggs that refer to earlier Disney classics, making it one of Disney’s most exciting animated productions in a very long time. A hybrid of traditional 2D and contemporary CGI is also said to characterize the art style.

Migration — December 22, 2023

Illumination, the production company made infamous by Gru and his gang of yellow Minions, will release Migration, their sixteenth feature film. The plot of one of the new animated movies is currently unknown. Other than that, it is a family adventure comedy about a family of ducks trying to persuade their overprotective father to take a trip of a lifetime. This is undoubtedly one that fans of animated films should keep their eye on, especially with a track record that includes successful franchises like Despicable Me and Minions, The Secret Life of Pets, and Sing.

Chicken Run: Dawn of the Nugget — Release Date TBD, 2023

Fans of Aardman’s distinct brand of quirky and occasionally irreverent humor will be itching to see this eagerly awaited sequel, which comes more than 20 years after the release of the original Chicken Run. Viewers will be able to catch up with Ginger and Rocky after their spectacular escape from the chicken farm in Dawn of the Nugget. The couple’s life appears to be complete until they become aware of a dangerous plan to slaughter hundreds of chickens to make chicken nuggets that can be consumed by anyone, forcing them to take action once more to protect the chickens. The voices of Ginger and Rocky will be replaced by Thandiwe Newton and Zachary Levi, who will succeed Julia Sawalha and Mel Gibson, respectively. Expectations are undoubtedly high, considering that the first Chicken Run currently has a highly respectable 97% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

Escape from Hat — Release Date TBD, 2023

Escape from Hat further supports the idea that Netflix is a true force to be reckoned with when it comes to animated originals. It has a fantastically imaginative premise that follows a rabbit on an impossibly difficult quest to escape a magician’s hat and return to his human family. It is based on the children’s book of the same name by Adam Kline. The project is in capable hands because it is directed by Mark Osborne, known for his work on The Little Prince and Kung Fu Panda. A release date has yet to be revealed, which is unfortunate given the lack of information about the film.

High in the Clouds — Release Date TBD, 2023

Paul McCartney and Phillip Adargh’s children’s book High in the Clouds was widely praised when it was released in 2005. It tells the epic story of an abandoned young squirrel who travels through the wilderness to an animal sanctuary without a family or home. The film has been stuck in development hell since 2013, but it would make a fantastic animated film. Recently, however, the news began to turn around because it was revealed that Netflix and Gaumont Films were working together to produce the film, which is set to hit theaters later this year, according to Rolling Stone. Although no precise release date has been specified, McCartney fans will be thrilled to learn that he wrote the original music for the score.

Nimona — Release Date TBD, 2023

This fantasy adventure drama’s development process has been drawn out and complicated. The project, which 20th Century Fox was initially producing and its subsidiary Blue Sky Animation Studios, was left in limbo after Disney acquired Fox and Blue Sky was closed. There were rumors that Disney was reluctant to participate in the project because of its prominent LGBTQ+ themes. It was revealed on April 11, 2022, that DNEG Animation had taken over production on the project and that Annapurna Pictures had revived it, setting the movie’s release date for Netflix in 2023. The story follows Nimona, a teenage shapeshifter who is the target of assassination. The situation becomes more complicated, though, when the designated assassin learns that Nimona might be the only person who can clear him of a crime he did not commit.

Conclusion

2023 promises a fantastic year for the movie industry, with various new animated movies set to hit the big screen. With their stunning visuals and captivating stories, these new animated movies are sure to thrill and entertain moviegoers of all ages. Whether you’re a fan of traditional hand-drawn animation or prefer cutting-edge computer-generated movies, there will be something for everyone in 2023.
